The Cincinnati Zoo noticed lesions developing on the feet of their penguins. A study showed that swimming would reduce the size and presence of these lesions. The interactive penguin feeder would require the penguins to swim and interact with an underwater sensor in order to obtain their food treats in order to combat the lesions and allow the zoo to collect feeding data.
